CAMTC Therapist #576 // About Neil Camero, CMT
Prior to massage therapy, I was a manager/mechanic of an F-16 in the U.S. Air Force during the “War on Terror”, and a competitive computer gamer the rest of my waking hours. All I knew growing up was how machines worked. It was only a matter of time when I would take an interest in how the body functioned, but more importantly its dysfunctions. An odd thing to take interest in, but I found the pain problems others had fascinating.
A recurring theme I learned early in my research, and still holds true today, was muscle imbalances causing a majority of the dysfunctions in those in pain. It seems logical then to lengthen the tight (shortened) muscles, and strengthen the weak (overstretched) muscles. Seeing as how people dread exercise, massage therapy was the popular choice.
My journey began at Bryman College graduating from a 750-hour massage therapy program. Garnet Dupuis, instructor at the Massage School of Santa Monica and co-founder of Burke Williams Day Spa, developed my strong foundation in Deep Tissue Structural Bodywork (DTSB) used in my work today. I’m grateful to have studied with other legends in our field such as Aaron Mattes in Active Isolated Stretching (AIS) for bringing the functional component to my work, and James Waslaski in Orthopedic Massage for connecting the dots.
Striving for the highest standards and his commitment to you
